Solarwinds Orion Monitoring Tool

Hi Team,

 

We have in our network Enterprise Orion Network Monitoring tool, we have more than hundred devices put on monitoring. Now a days we are requesting Solarwinds service restart once or twice in a day due to not being seen alerts for longer time. Some times even-though Solarwinds is in proper working condition, if its not throwing the alerts for longer duration, we are not sure and we have to ask for restart of service.

To avoid this, can we chose one dummy port in a switch and added that one for monitoring. So that if we are not getting the alerts for longer duration, we can disable/enable this port for making sure that the Solarwinds is polling the alerts or not. Whether that port should be connected on network ?

View Source and destination ports on netflow flows

Hi

 

I have set up netflow and I am looking through displaying the data in a way that makes sense to us

Is there a way to see both source and destination TCP/UDP port in a flow view.

 

I have some traffic that seems to be recognized on it source port instead of the destination, but cant verify it as I cant find a way to view both dest and src ports.

 

I have also been looking on information on how NTA discovers what is the significant port of a flow.

I have worked with Scrutinizer their port election process will result in Scrutinizer showing the Source port instead of the destination port if the destination port is unknown and not labeled, and am wondering if it is the same on NTA.

Hi Everyone,

                     I currently use NTA to monitor ports on our core switch. One port is or data port between our sites and our datacenter. The other port is internet traffic. When I view the internet traffic, I get content servers such as amazonaws and akamaitechnologies. Is there an easy way to view which actual web sited my users are hitting. either through NTA or with another product?

Common list of Netflow applications to add

Hello everyone,

 

Has anyone seen a common list of applications that you can add to Netflow? For example, Netflix, youtube, facebook, etc... Big bandwidth hogs like streaming video can usually be seen pretty quickly on Netflow, however I would like to create customize a view that shows the usage of several common applications/destinations and the bandwidth being used for those communications.

Cisco 4500X switch & Flexible Netflow

Hi,

 

We have 2 x Cisco 4500X switches running in VRRP mode , we think we have flexible netflow  configured properly but NTA is not receiving any flows. Has anybody had or got a similar issue ?

 

Config on the switch looks like this.

NBAR2 vs Netflow

Hi,

 

Reaching out to see if anyone has noticed large differences between NBAR2 and Netflow data.

 

I've been trying to figure out which source I should use when trying to establish utilisation.

 

Should the data be the same? I appreciate NBAR covers more layers but I would have thought it would be close just more detailed around the type of traffic.

 

Attached are two graphs from the same interface on a router. NBAR2 and Netflow.

SNMPv2c - Issue with Public Community string failing to connect

I have inherited an older version of NPM/NTA and the Cisco ASA we currently have in SW, shows connected with SNMPv2c Public and a blank community string. Testing the new version on a separate server, testing the same fails. The device actually shows in the software as not supporting SNMP, and I had to add interfaces manually.

 

Have I missed an item? Perhaps a password where it doesn't appear to have one? I know the device supports SNMP, at least on the 3.x version of SW NTA.

NetFlow Conversation Summary Chart Issue

Hey guys. A newbie here on Thwack and SolarWinds. The chart display on Top 100 Conversation shows the bandwidth that is just impossible for the current network infrastructure. We have 40Mbps connection with burst, but the chart is showing some conversation took place at over 1Gbps. That's just impossible. However, if I click on the detail it shows the more realistic bandwidth. So I think it's just the chart that is broken. How do I fix this problem? Is this a known bug?

Can anyone provide additional information other then what SolarWinds lists on their requirements and FAQ pages as to why this is a requirement for NTA 4.4?

Do I need some special SQL server permissions?

Yes. The NTA Flow Storage database account requires the ALTER ANY CONNECTION permission in order to schedule and optimize the daily database maintenance task. This ensures that SolarWinds minimizes the performance impact of the maintenance task, and maintains the overall performance of the database.

Using SQL Management Studio, run the following command to grant permissions:

USEmaster

GRANTALTERANY CONNECTION TO<grantee> [ AS<grantor> ]

 

Any insight regarding it would be greatly appreciated.

Top 5 applications, data is not available.

configured Sflow on nexus 9k. Version is 7.0(3)I7(6)

 

sflow collector-ip 172.16.0.70 vrf default

slow collector-port 2055

sflow agent-ip 172.17.200.253

 

I am able to see node along with interfaces and the port number for the solar-winds server is correct.

 

I am unable to see any data for the top 5 applications graph along with the top 5 conversations graph.

 

This is the same configuration on my other nexus 9k and that node is showing data on both graphs correctly.

Hi Guys,

 

I am working to propose a network monitoring solution for the company. I had chosen solarwinds NTA and NPM and configured on one of the servers. But since the devices here in our premises were non netflow devices, i was not getting the results what i was expecting. So i used nprobe a third party tool to fetch information which ended up as a failure. Our company has decided to buy a new switch for netflow that is within the budget and serves the purpose. Could someone help me to validate the compatibility of Cisco 2960 switch with Solarwinds. I read it provides netflow-lite reporting and netflow-lite is supported in solarwinds NTA. Any help in this matter is appreciated.
